Transparency & Accountability Policy
HAA's commitment to operating openly, responsibly and ethically — providing clear information about our work, funding and impact.
1. Our commitment
Help African Animals believes that conservation organizations have a responsibility to operate transparently, responsibly and ethically.
We aim to provide clear information about: Who we are, What we do, Where we work, How projects are funded, What partnerships support our work, What we have achieved, What remains to be done, and How supporters can hold us accountable.
Transparency and accountability are also emphasized within Uganda's NGO regulatory framework.
2. Organizational information
HAA will seek to make appropriate organizational information available, including: Legal/registration information where appropriate, Governance information, Leadership, Mission and objectives, Contact information, Areas of work, and Organizational policies.
3. Financial transparency
HAA will maintain appropriate financial records and controls.
Where appropriate and legally permissible, HAA will publish or make available: Annual reports, Financial reports, Major funding information, Funding sources, Program expenditure information, and Relevant audited accounts or financial statements.
4. Conservation funding
HAA will communicate clearly about the sources and intended purposes of conservation funding.
Where tourism contributions support HAA, HAA will explain the relationship clearly.
HAA currently works with African Animals Tours & Travel as a tourism partner, including the stated 10% contribution from eligible tour fees to HAA. HAA will not imply that the 10% contribution represents all HAA funding.
5. Project transparency
HAA will distinguish clearly between: Ongoing projects, Completed projects, and Future ambitions. Information about projects should be based on available evidence and records.
6. Impact reporting
HAA will seek to report meaningful outcomes rather than relying only on activity numbers.
Where appropriate, impact reporting may include:
- Activities completed and People engaged
- Training delivered and Research produced
- Legal resources developed and Communities reached
- Conservation outcomes and Lessons learned
HAA will avoid knowingly publishing exaggerated or unsupported claims.
7. Publications
HAA will publish appropriate: Reports, Research, Legal resources, Policy materials, Project updates, and Conservation stories. Where appropriate, publications will identify authorship, dates and related projects.
8. Partnerships
HAA will seek to identify significant organizational partnerships where disclosure is appropriate and has been agreed with the partner. Partnerships will not be presented in a way that implies endorsement beyond the actual relationship.
9. Conflicts of interest
HAA will maintain appropriate mechanisms for identifying and managing conflicts of interest among people involved in governance, management and project decisions.
10. Corrections
If HAA discovers that a material public statement contains an error, HAA will seek to correct it appropriately.
11. Accountability
Questions or concerns about HAA's operations may be directed to: info@helpafricananimals.org
HAA may also provide appropriate channels for: General complaints, Safeguarding concerns, Whistleblowing, and Data-protection concerns.
12. Review
This policy will be reviewed periodically and updated as HAA's governance and reporting systems develop.
